Intent

At St Alban & St Stephen Catholic Primary School, we believe music is a universal language that unites and inspires. Our high-quality music curriculum nurtures confidence, creativity and a deep appreciation of diverse musical traditions. We develop the whole child as creators, performers and listeners, fostering a lifelong love of music. Through the key skills of Performing, Composing, Singing and Listening, pupils grow in musical understanding, cultural awareness and self-expression.

Implementation

Our exceptional Music Specialist leads weekly curriculum lessons across the school, as well as vibrant singing assemblies that bring our community together in joyful worship and celebration. She also directs a range of music clubs and our thriving school choir, providing pupils with rich opportunities to develop their talents beyond the classroom. Lessons are carefully sequenced to build knowledge progressively, with pupils learning to play instruments, use musical notation and explore a wide range of genres and traditions. Performances, productions and community events further enrich pupils’ musical experiences.

Ongoing assessment ensures children develop confidence and mastery in their musical skills. Our Music curriculum is fully aligned with the National Curriculum and is designed to ensure all pupils develop the knowledge, skills, and understanding outlined within it.
