St Bernadette House Celebration

There was a wonderful sense of excitement among the children of St Bernadette’s House today as we came together to celebrate her feast day. St Bernadette continues to inspire us with her deep faith, humility, and devotion—core values that we strive to uphold within our school community. Her life, marked by simplicity and trust in God, remains a powerful example for us all.
Our Year 6 members of St Bernadette’s House led a beautiful liturgy filled with heartfelt readings and prayers. The theme of our service was “the importance of Mary, our Mother, and prayer in our lives.” This reflects how St Bernadette was inspired by her visions of Our Lady and spent the rest of her life praying for others and caring for the sick, even though she herself often felt unwell. St Bernadette was chosen as one of our House saints because her life symbolises our school values of determination, faith, and respect.
During his homily, Father John reflected on St Bernadette’s life and her message of faith and perseverance, encouraging us to consider how we, too, can live out her example through our words and actions—both at home and at school.
Dressed in our house colour of green, we wrote prayers of hope for our own lives, our families, our school community, and the wider world on green crosses, which we carefully displayed on our prayer table.
Following the liturgy, we enjoyed a sunny afternoon in the playground, complete with delicious ice lollies and some extra playtime. It was a truly special occasion, spent together honouring the life and legacy of St Bernadette.
