World Prayer Day

On Friday, 6th March, we came together as a school community to celebrate World Prayer Day, a significant worldwide event. This year, the organisers hailed from Nigeria, and the theme was beautifully encapsulated in the phrase, “I will give you rest, come,” taken from Matthew 11.

Our celebration was a wonderful opportunity for both Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 to engage with this theme in meaningful ways. Key Stage 2 participated in Lectio Divina, a meditative practice focusing on scripture. Through this activity, the children explored the Gospel reading, discovering that God offers us the gift of rest when we approach Him with our burdens. It was heartwarming to see the students reflecting on this message and understanding its importance in their lives. Meanwhile, Key Stage 1 enjoyed a creative approach with Visio Divina, where they meditated on artwork that illustrated the Gospel.

All children left with a mission: to find rest in God and to embody the role of disciples of Jesus by helping others who carry heavy burdens.

Back in the classroom, the children took their mission to heart. They participated in a silent prayer, offering their burdens to God in a moment of quiet reflection. To further celebrate the theme of “I will give you rest,” the children crafted sleep masks, adding a fun and creative twist to the day.

Overall, the day was filled with reverence and joy, allowing our students to connect deeply with the mission while enjoying the process. It was a beautiful reminder of the importance of rest and the joy of helping others find peace.
