Year 1- 1.5.26

This week in Year 1, we have been busy exploring two very important maths superpowers: multiplication and division. We have discovered that they are really just about patterns and sharing equally.

We have learned that multiplying is just a faster way of adding the same number over and over again. We call this repeated addition.Instead of saying “2 + 2 + 2 = 6”, we can say:"I have 3 groups of 2, which equals 6."

We initially used Arrays to help us count the groups, these were either pictures or counters to make neat rows and columns. We have also used number Lines and objects to count.

Last week, we were honoured to meet Jodie Williams, three-time Olympian and British sprinting legend. Jodie led a high-energy session, guiding the group through a dynamic carousel of exercises that challenged their agility and strength.

We were deeply inspired by Jodie’s encouragement to the younger generation, especially when she told them, "The most important thing is to just keep showing up and have fun with it; as long as you are enjoying the journey, you’ve already won."

In Computing, we have started our new topic on digital literacy. The children have enjoyed planning and taking photos to tell a story using different characters.

In D&T, the children have been exploring fruits and vegetables- where do they grow, what part of the plant we eat and how to identify the differences between them.

Wishing you a happy bank holiday weekend. See you on Tuesday!
