Year 1 - A week of visitors
On Monday, Rabbi Zvi visited Year 1 to teach us about Judaism. He also visited Year 2 and Year 5 classes, which was only possible because of the generosity of the SSAS PTA for paying the fees.
In Year 1, we learned about that Shabbat, the Jewish day of rest. It begins on Friday evening and ends on Saturday evening. Families spend time together, lighting candles, saying prayers and sharing a special meal together.
The Rabbi explained that a Kippah is a small cap that many Jewish boys and men wear as a sign of respect to God. We all got to try one on.
We also learnt about the Synagogue, which is a jewish place of worship. People go there to pray, celebrate festivals and learn about their faith. The Rabbi showed us a Torah, which is a very special holy book that is always shown respect and is kept in a place of safety in the synagogue.
On Thursday, the school was open for parents to see all the fantastic work that the children have produced throughout the year. So, lots of visitors came to the classroom and spent time looking at exercise books, seeing the class displays and chatting with the teacher about the successes of the year. The children also had an opportunity to visit their new Year 2 classrooms and teachers.
Thank you for spending the time looking at your child's work and showing so much enthusiasm. We know that they love showing off their achievements.
